Glachbeg Croft is a small working farm, set on around six hectares of land. The business operates out of a purpose-built environmentally-sensitive building, which anyone using the road we’re on can’t help but notice! We raise cattle and sheep, and also keep chickens and guinea pigs. As well as animals, we have a productive orchard, a large polytunnel and an outdoor vegetable garden. Some years, we also have a substantial tattie patch to keep us busy!
We care for as much of the farm as we can and with the exception of outside help from our neighbour during hay-cutting and baling, everything is done in-house. Visitors to the farm will see all manner of flowers, vegetables, building work and creativity – all of which has been achieved with our placements.
Vehicles at the farm are used to help work the fields and to improve accessibility for people with limited mobility.
We use the context of this working farm as a foundation to help teach life skills and responsibilities to people of all ages and abilities. There’s always work to do, and depending on an individual’s interests and abilities we identify empowering tasks and activities.
The possibilities are almost limitless, which is why we work hard to build a positive relationship with the people we’re supporting. This helps us understand them, their strengths and weaknesses, and helps them understand us, the farm and what we can offer.
